1. Always learn. Stay hungry for knowledge. Strive for more.
Why it is important: as Aristotle said: “The more you know, the more you don’t know”. Life actually isn’t that far from ancient Greek philosophy, the world is changing with every second. Yes, even right now the new spheres and professions are appearing. That is why you should learn how to learn properly and adjust to the coming changes.
How we do it: here in Mercatus Academy we have a unique methodology “learning to learn”. The philosophy is simply brilliant: Socratic discussions to strengthen critical thinking; hands on real-world projects; no supervising – only mentoring.
- Accept every challenge in your life as an opportunity to grow.
Why it is important: life is unpredictable. C’est la vie. There are always some obstacles on your way, especially on your career path. Take it as a challenge: accept it, fix it, get your experience and grow. Try to find something good in every hard situation. This will bring your new transferable skills and knowledge.
How we do it: one of our studying approaches is challenge-based learning – we bring our students to the common real-life business challenges like sales challenge or marketing challenge (wait for it in our next posts). They quickly accumulate knowledge and skills they’ve already got and implement it immediately in practice.
- Invest your time and resources in education.
Why it is important: formal education all over the world is deeply in crisis. No one there is interested in the quality of your education, that’s why it’s important to dedicate your time and money to self-education. To be the successful and outstanding person in a job market you should definitely make efforts. Invest in good education, learn as much as you can and more, read more, find your mentor.
How we do it: Despite some huge problems, American education model is still the best in the world. Acton School of Business is at the highest level of the US business education. Acton was formed by the leading entrepreneurs with 50+ years of total business experience. They selected only the best theory and practice and provided the best MBA program. Here in Mercatus Academy, we have the honor to have a partnership with Acton School of Business and to use their materials to provide the best programs for our students.
- Learn to think like an entrepreneur.
Why it is important: we’re used to identify entrepreneurs as those people who started the business. And while that’s still true, now we tend to see entrepreneurs as people who think in a pretty specific way. It’s called the entrepreneurial mindset. It involves some precious treats like an opportunity recognition, comfort with risk, creativity and innovation, flexibility and adaptability, critical thinking and so much more to outstand among others.
How we do it: we take talented people and upgrade their “natural” abilities by putting them into a business environment. While learning, students get an experience in business projects; they learn the Lean Startup Methodology, work on their own ideas and develop them into potential projects. During an internship, students face real-life problems and situations they need to solve with their personal treats.
- Excel is a genius invention of a humanity. And 50+ other tools, we learn to use here, too.
Why it is important: the importance of Excel in the work is undeniable. A working knowledge of Excel is vital for most office-based professionals today, and stronger Excel skills can open the door to career opportunities. Personally, we think that thing can account literally anything and everything you could imagine. But Excel cannot function alone, therefore, there are so many other essentials you need to work with.
How we do it: Mercatus Academy provides 50+ professional tools, which are essential in the working process. We teach our students how to make work routine easier and more effective at the same time. We selected approved instruments for project management, accounting, planning and organizing, digital marketing, etc.
